Government Women's Polytechnic College

     This Polytechnic was started at Ettayapuram to commemorate the birth centenary of Mahakavi Bharathiyar at his birth place. It commenced functioning from 6th October, 1982 temporarily in the premises of Ettayapuram Maharaja’s Annadhana Chatram. With in a brief period of two years, the polytechnic had its own building constructed in the area of 40 acres.

     The polytechnic college is situated at 13 k.m. to the east of kovilpatti on the kovilpatti – Thoothukudi Highway and 3 k.m to the west of Ettayapuram Bus stand.

     Chinnaswami Subramania Bharatiyar (11 December 1882 – 11 September 1921) was an Indian writer, poet, journalist, Indian independence activist and social reformer from Tamil Nadu, India. Popularly known as "Mahakavi Bharatiyar", he is a pioneer of modern Tamil poetry and is considered one among the greatest of Tamil literary figures of all time. His numerous works were fiery songs kindling patriotism and nationalism during Indian Independence movement.

     Born in Ettayapuram of the then Tirunelveli district (presently Tuticorin district) in 1882, Subramania Bharati had his early education in Tirunelveli and Benares and worked as a journalist with many newspapers, notable among them being the Swadesamitran and India. Bharati was also an active member of the Indian National Congress. In 1908, an arrest warrant was issued against Bharati by the government of British India for his revolutionary activities forcing him to flee to Pondicherry where he lived until 1918.

  •      Bharathiar centenary memorial government polytechnic for women, Ettayapuram is a post-secondary, technical, educational and training institute offering competency based diploma and post diploma level courses and non-formal and continuing education skill training programs to meet the changing needs of business and industries, unemployed and socialy disadvantaged women, including physicaly disabled, in both rural and urban areas through environmentally sound and up-to-date curriculum and placement services and enterpreneurial development programs.
         We beleive in quality through excellence in our practive of equity, accessibility, staff development, high ethical and moral standards and our care for our students total personality development while adopting a participatory and information aharing approach in all activities.
